Top Ten Kid Friendly Spots in Orange County

It had its own TV show and is known for its flawless beaches and beautiful people. There’s so much to do, how do you narrow it all down? When you visit orange County or Southern California, be sure to swing by some of these favorite destinations for an authentic OC experience.

  • Heisler Park – Located at one of our favorite beaches, Laguna Beach, walk amongst crashing waves and intense cliffs. Enjoy meandering through the gardens, tide pools, and walking trails.
  • Knott’s Berry Farm – Who hasn’t heard of Knott’s Berry Farm? America’s first theme park has everything a kid could ask for: a Ghost Town, Camp Snoopy, rollercoasters, and plenty of live entertainment. Drop by during Halloween and experience The Halloween Haunt, though it’s a bit too scary for younger children (and ‘fraidy cat adults).
  • Crystal Cathedral – You’ve never seen anything like this! Designed in the shape of a four-pointed star, it is made of over 10,000 panels of glass. It is an architectural masterpiece.
  • Catalina Island – This is an excellent choice for a relaxing day with the family. You can take a relaxing boat ride over, then bike around the island.
  • Ocean Institute – Open Saturdays and Sundays, the Ocean Institute is home to hundreds of marine animals in both aquariums and touch tanks! You can also catch a whale watching cruise on the R/V Sea Explorer. This is hands down one of the funnest experiences you can take the kids on while visiting Orange County.

  • Crystal Cove State Park – Crystal Cove has the most amazing tidal pools in OC. We spent countless hours exploring them. You can also hike, horseback ride, and bike along the coastline. This is also one of the best places to catch an evening meteor shower.
  • Captain Dave’s Dolphin and Whale-Watching Boat Not only did we see countless dolphins, but we encountered a BLUE WHALE! The only one our ship captain had ever come across. Pure magic.
  • Huntington Beach, OC – Head over to the fire pits at night to unwind, watch the sunset, and make some S’mores with the family. Be sure to get there early to get dibs on a fire pit because they go quickly!
  • Disneyland – We were always ‘meh’ about DL pre-kids. Then we found ourselves in Orange County with annual passes, and heading to Disneyworld and Disneyland Paris. We’re coming for you Disney Tokyo!
  • Aquarium of the Pacific Take a glimpse at the Pacific from the inside. It can be Shark Week all year round at the Aquarium’s Shark Lagoon which is a 10,000 square foot outdoor exhibit feature 150 different kinds of sharks. Other exhibits include 11,000 ocean animals and features underwater viewing tunnels, so you feel like you are walking through the ocean.
